Who am I?
My name is Renee and I am a fully registered primary teacher who has been teaching neurodiverse children for over 10 years. I have taught in Education Support Centres, Autism-Specific schools, Early Intervention settings, and recently the Autism Specialist Learning Program implemented state-wide across public schools in WA.
I have taught non-verbal children, children with selective mutism, children with children with complex diagnoses, as well as children with ADD, ADHD and PDA. I have extensive knowledge and experience working in the field of autism and children’s education.
I currently teach in a primary school part-time.
What is my approach?
I consider myself to have a positive, holistic approach to autism education. What this means is that I draw from various evidence-based teaching and learning approaches and strategies, personalised to your child's needs. These include TEACCH, task analysis, functional behaviour analysis, interoception-based supports, pivotal response teaching, direct instruction, discrete trial training and precision teaching (aka fluency-based instruction). I use these strategies to instruct your child in the learning area/subject to be improved.
Please note that I do not offer behaviour-specific interventions.
My primary focus with regards to tutoring your child will always be their academic development, although positive behaviour change may always occur as a side effect!
If you are seeking behaviour support for your child, I am happy to recommend other providers for this.
Tutoring Fees and Packages
I offer an initial phone/skype consult with you and your child to learn more about their academic needs, strengths and goals. I may also request a copy of your child’s mid-year/end of year academic report, or Individual Learning Plan (if applicable), to identify which learning areas may be appropriate to work with your child first.
Following this initial phone consult, if you choose to go ahead, I charge $80 per 50 minute lesson, to be taken place in your home. The minimum in-home tutoring package I offer is 5 consecutive weeks (eg. $80 x 5 weeks = $400). This is to ensure consistency for your child and to maintain learning over time.
As part of each at-home tutoring package, I provide all teaching and learning materials for your child, so that all YOU need to provide is a desk, chair and quiet environment for the lesson to take place! Each lesson is documented and all activities designed to target your child’s personal academic goals.
I understand that life happens, plans change, children get sick, etc…
...so if you are no longer able to host a planned tutoring session, I can offer an alternative day/time according to my availability at no extra charge, within the minimum 5 week package timeframe.
